Cold Water SWIMMIMG Workshop at Project rewild:

Overview and benefits

We often experience stressful situations in our day-to-day lives. We might get tired, angry, frustrated or sad - but we often just bottle that up.

There’s also a lot of positive emotions that we bottle up - we’re often shy to play, to move our bodies, to laugh, to shout. We’re often scared to feel powerful, or even sexy.  And when we bottle all of these emotions up - it becomes harder and harder to deal with what life has to give us.

Working intentionally with cold water is an incredible practice. It not only burns a great number of calories, strengthens the immune system and reduces inflammation, but it is also an amazing way to release emotion, whilst developing resilience to stress. In this workshop, we’ll teach you how.

Starting off with half an hour of theory, we’ll cover the basics of the nervous system, how it responds under stress, and the impact that this  can have on us day-to-day. We’ll then spend a few minutes practising serious breathing - and learning how to use this breath in the water (and other stressful situations). Finally, I’ll talk you through the stages of entering, being in, and leaving the water.

After the theory, we’ll get in the water together, and I’ll guide you through each stage; preparing to enter, training our bodies not to feel the cold water as a threat, and harnessing the natural rush of emotions which come when we leave the water and enter the cold air.

Ideally, you will leave the session knowing how:

  • Our nervous system affects us on a daily basis

  • How you can gently train the nervous system to be more resilient

  • How you can survive moments of intense stress

  • How you can safely experience and  release built-up stress, anger, fear, loneliness, joy, rage, power - and whatever other emotions may need to come up.

The skills and knowledge we cover in this workshop can be life-changing, and can act as a powerful foundation to transform your relationships with your physical well-being, your mental well-being, and your relationships with others.

We swim on various beaches along the coastline of Hastings and St Leonards.
